Time tracking on tasks

Log time on tasks with a timer or manual entries. Compare estimates to actual hours and review the time log for any task.

Who this is for

All workspace members on plans that include Tasks.

Before you start

  • Access to Tasks and permission to open task details.

Steps

  1. Open a task in the task detail panel.

  2. Find the Time estimate and Time tracked rows.

  3. Start timer to begin logging. Only one active timer runs per user at a time.

  4. Add optional notes in the inline notes field while the timer runs.

  5. Click the stop icon when you finish.

  6. Open View log to see who logged time and when.

  7. Use Add manual time in the Time Log dialog when you need to enter time without a timer.

What you should see

Logged time appears on the task and in the Time Log. Estimates help you compare planned vs actual hours. Live Dashboard widgets on Business+ can use logged time.

Troubleshooting

  • Start timer is disabled Stop the timer on your other active task first, or confirm you have edit access on this task.

  • Time log is empty Open View log after stopping the timer. Use Add manual time for past work.

  • Prompt to switch timer Only one timer runs at a time. Choose to switch to this task or keep the current timer.

Common questions

Can I run two timers?

No. One active timer per user. Starting a new timer prompts you to switch or cancel.

Where do estimates come from?

Set a time estimate on the task row in the detail panel. Auto-schedule also uses estimates on the calendar.

Who can see logged time?

Anyone with access to the task can open View log.
