Setting up your Strategic Brief

In Elevale, your Strategic Brief (also called the business brief) lives inside Strategic Direction. It is the foundation for OKRs, certifications, AI context, and quarterly planning. This guide walks you through a first-time setup.

Before you start

  • You need Editor or Admin access in the workspace.

  • Allow 20–45 minutes for a solid first pass, you can save progress and return later.

  • If you are brand new to Elevale, complete Workspace setup first.

Open Strategic Direction

  1. Sign in to Elevale and select your workspace.

  2. In the left sidebar, open Strategic Direction (or go to /strategic-direction).

  3. If this is your first visit, follow the welcome prompts on the Overview tab.

Six tabs, what to complete

Strategic Direction is organised into six tabs. Work through them in this order:

  • Overview: company details, mission, vision, values, goals, and challenges (core Strategic Brief)

  • Strategic Analysis: SWOT and situational analysis

  • Market Position: target audience, competitors, and positioning

  • Systems: operational, sales, marketing, and admin systems

  • Financial Analysis: financial overview and metrics

  • Team Structure: organisational chart and people context

Step-by-step: Overview tab (start here)

  1. On Overview, enter your business name and basic company details.

  2. Write your mission statement (why you exist) and vision (where you are heading).

  3. Add core values: three to five principles that guide decisions.

  4. Capture short-term and long-term goals so OKR planning has context.

  5. List your top business challenges: these feed workshops and certification evidence later.

  6. Click save on each card as you go; changes are stored to your workspace business brief.

Next tabs (recommended order)

  1. Strategic Analysis: complete SWOT and situational analysis while strategy is fresh.

  2. Market Position: document ideal clients, USPs, and competitors.

  3. Team Structure: build your org chart; required for many certification questionnaires.

  4. Systems and Financial Analysis: add depth when you are ready; link wiki policies where relevant.

How the Strategic Brief is used in Elevale

  • OKRs and KPIs: align objectives with mission and goals from the brief.

  • Certifications: many requirements auto-link fields from your Strategic Brief (mission, org chart, training, financials).

  • AI assistant: chat and voice use brief context to answer workspace-specific questions.

  • Quarterly workshop: refreshes goals and challenges from the same source of truth.

Tips for a useful brief

  • Write for a new team member, plain language beats jargon.

  • Update the org chart when roles change; certification and compliance flows depend on it.

  • Export a PDF from Strategic Direction when you need an offline snapshot for auditors or investors.

  • Revisit after your quarterly workshop, the brief should evolve with the business.

Troubleshooting

  • I cannot see Strategic Direction: check your role with a workspace admin; viewers have read-only access.

  • Fields look empty after invite: confirm you are in the correct workspace (footer workspace switcher).

  • Certification cannot link brief fields: complete the matching section in Strategic Direction first, then return to the certification action.
